American Akita Toys For The Holidays

With the holidays coming up you might be puzzling over what kind of gift for your Akita puppy. Surely you won’t leave one of the most important members of your family out in the cold on Christmas day. The problem is finding something that the Akita, particularly the version we focus on the American Akita, won’t destroy in 30 seconds on less can be an issue. You can look at the pet superstore for items, but they are not likely to hold up during the full on Akita assault. You have already trained and socialized your dog by this time. (If you haven’t check the Ultimate Akita Owners Guide in the sidebar on the right of the page.) Here’s a suggestion for your holiday shopping that will make your most loyal member of the family feel included. DogToys.com features Toys-by Breed selected especially for your breed of dog.. Focused especially on the unique needs of our American Akita, Dog Toys can help you narrow your choices quickly.

Akita Puppy Care Needs

Caring for your Akita puppy as they grow have a few common sense, but important guidelines.  Lots of exercise is very important for your Akita, so having a large fenced yard is ideal.  Daily exercise is a big requirement for Akitas for their good health.  Exercise isn’t needed regularly for your Akita puppies.  Short walks and play outside will take care of the needs of your Akita puppy.  (There are few things more fun than watching your Akita puppy chasing birds around the yard.)

Outdoor weather is an Akitas best friend.  However, long periods of time outside isn’t a good idea.  The double thick coat Akitas have is certainly a limiting factor in being outside in warmer weather.  Cooler temperatures is a big plus for your dog.  Extreme weather doesn’t work well either for these dogs, so get them inside during rainstorms or other bad weather.

Early Akita puppy training is another important part of the care and feeding of Akita puppies.  As a pack animal, Akitas want to be the leader of their pack.  You’ll need to provide that training to take control of your own pack.  Leash training began at puppy time will pay off in big dividends when your puppy becomes an adult.  Another important early training idea is to expose your Akita puppy to other dogs and strangers.  This socialization process will help you avoid problems down line.  Akitas have a natural desire to protect and guard.  Getting them started with other situations will help you hold this sometimes negative behavior in check.

Akitas are sensitive animals.  That might be a bit hard to believe, given the size of the adult dog.  Lots of love and attention are very important to Akitas good health.  Give them exercise, fresh air, and love, and you’ll have a happy healthy companion for a long time.
