Would you lay on it?
Just came back from the local big box super collossus pet store today. Looking around the store and came across large dog beds, for dogs like Akita puppies, full grown Huskies and the like. If you love these dogs like I do, you already know that a full grown Akita can weigh up to 120 pounds.
Grabbing the bed, I couldn’t believe what they were selling as a home for my dog. It was 27″ by 36″ and had maybe a thickness of a half inch. Being rather generous with that description. The sign over the pen where these “beds” were kept said “Large Dog Beds“.
You’re probably bigger than your large dog, but can you imagine putting your body on that mat to sleep? My foot instantly went to the hard concrete floor. You can imagine how your best buddy will feel crawling up on that bed to sleep. Plus, full grown Akitas are a minimum of 25 inches tall from floor to shoulder.
A good rule of thumb is if your dog is hanging out of the bed, the beds too small. These beds might fit a young Akita puppy, but its worthless for a full grown large dog of any breed. When you need a hand finding the right stuff, we’re here to help you find the right equipment for your dog.
